Featured Artist ~ Edith Head
What a costume designer does is a cross between magic and camouflage. We create the illusion of changing the actors into what they are not.
Well I’m feeling pretty out of the loop – and am slapping myself silly for it!! How is it that I had never known about the amazing Edith Head until this month… poor excuse for an aspiring fashion illustrator right here, eh? So I decided to share with you my fave illustrations of hers – aren’t they lovely? And of course they all have one thing in common – Audrey Hepburn! Enjoy!
Her sketches are absolutely gorgeous – I’m just wondering though, if anyone knows which of these ones above were actually done by her, since it’s been said that she rarely did her own sketching because of her time schedule. I would have gone insane if I had someone else doing my sketching – eek! (I think that’s the best part.) Best trivia fact about her? She was 5′ 1½” – I’m about that height (haven’t measured myself in a while) and it’s always neat to find famous people the same height as you! Also if you saw The Incredibles you might remember a short, eccentric fashion designer by the name of Edna Mode. You guessed it, she was modeled after Edith – how cute! If you’re silly like me, and haven’t heard of her – go to google images STAT. I mean it! (:
Hope you’re all having a lovely Wednesday!
